Since its foundation, Progetto Sisma has placed research and development activities at the core of its mission. With this commitment, the company has expanded its department by involving professionals with strong academic backgrounds and has established collaborations with some of the most advanced international research centers in the field of seismic risk.
Progetto Sisma considers it essential to validate its products through laboratory testing using full-scale specimens, rather than relying exclusively on numerical analyses, however advanced they may be. For this reason, the company has undertaken a significant experimental program in collaboration with the Fondazione Eucentre in Pavia, the Università di Napoli Federico II, and the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara.
Our Experimental Path
The experimental campaigns carried out so far have aimed to investigate how strengthening systems can improve the seismic response of existing buildings, focusing on reinforced concrete frame structures (with infill walls) and load-bearing masonry buildings.
In addition to the experimental tests—performed on different types of full-scale wall specimens—several numerical analyses have also been conducted to examine an even wider range of case studies.
Thanks to these activities, it has been possible to define practical guidelines to support engineers and architects in designing with Progetto Sisma strengthening systems and in verifying building performance after the intervention.
