Building Features
Thanks to a structural strengthening intervention that included the application of Sismagrid and the subsequent installation of a traditional thermal coat, the building achieved seismic upgrading and thermal insulation.
The building has a load-bearing structure in stone and solid brick masonry and is a single-story structure, slightly elevated, separated from an attic space by a reinforced concrete slab.
Prior to the intervention, the building had a seismic vulnerability coefficient of 0.072, corresponding to Italian seismic class F.
Intervention with Sismagrid
To make the intervention less invasive and costly, the contractor opted to replace the originally planned reinforcement solution with Sismagrid.
The seismic improvement project included:
- Foundation strengthening
- Attic slab consolidation through a reinforced concrete topping
- Insertion of prestressed tie rods
- Perimeter wall reinforcement using Sismagrid
These measures raised the seismic vulnerability coefficient to 0.908, equivalent to Italian seismic class A.
Sismagrid consists of steel mesh modules with 2 mm square mesh. Its dry application without removing existing plaster allows for rapid installation, reducing on-site work and material waste.
Another key advantage of Sismagrid is its compatibility with thermal insulation systems. In Montecreto, a 14 cm EPS thermal coat was installed over the reinforced walls.
